County Commissioner

Sam Barrington

Camps and knots and outdoor cooking – the essence of Guiding, and such fond memories for me of my time as a Brownie and Guide. So, it was an easy decision for me to become a unit volunteer in my 20s.  My volunteer journey actually started with Brownies in Coventry. I then moved to a Rainbow unit in South Bucks and later Brownies and Rainbows in Bletchley.

Being part of Guiding brings me opportunities, healthy challenge, and lots of joy. It’s such a reward to see girls build their confidence and have new experiences.  My most recent stand-out Guiding moment was being part of the team at the King’s Coronation.

Outside of guiding I am full time working mum, with both of my young children involved with Guiding and Scouting. I have a ‘just have a go attitude’; over the last few years this has seen me learn to swim, get back into horse riding, learn to drive a lorry, take up yoga, as well as accept this exciting position as County Commissioner.  My hopes for my time in the role are that this attitude will make a positive difference in the community.
