My link to girlguiding Buckinghamshire has spanned, like so many other members across the county, across several decades. Starting in 1974 when my sister joined Brownies and my Mum started volunteering at the unit in Chesham Methodist Church. As my Dad was not always home in time my twin and I were on occasions allowed to join in the first part of the evening despite only being 4! So when our time came 3 years later, we could not wait.
Since then I have benefited from the wealth of friendship, life and confidence building activities first as a girl, then young leader and latterly an adult volunteer in 2nd Chesham Brownies where I remain as the longest serving Brown Owl to date.
In this role as county Growth, retention and Marketing Coordinator I continue to be astounded by the dedication and commitment of our adult teams providing an inspiring, varied and enriching programme of girlguiding experiences to the girls in our care.
My aim therefore is that these wonderful opportunities can be more regularly publicised across a variety of local and national media channels in the coming years. This I hope will result in a positive development of our branding profile – to allow as many girls as possible to benefit from these and attract the next generation of adult volunteers to grow and strengthen girlguiding Buckinghamshire now and in the future.
